I have been trying, largely in vain, to get someone in a position of authority to investigate two ideas that I have proposed that have the potential to greatly reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced on a national and international scale.
The first idea, which involves using the heat and steam generated by naturally occurring geothermal sea vents (so called submarine vents) on the ocean floor, to generate emission free power.
These vents routinely change massive amounts of seawater into steam, but currently there is no system in place to harness this power.
For want of a better term, nuclear reactors function much like giant tea kettles. They produce large amounts of heat, and the heat is used to boil the water and change it into steam. The steam then powers electricity producing turbines.
Unfortunately, the reactors also produce massive amounts of nuclear waste and contaminants.
Volcanic vents also boil water, creating steam and do produce environments that facilitate life.
If the steam can be tapped, there is a potential for massive amounts of emission free power to be generated.
As I readily admit, I have no qualifications in earth sciences or engineering, but I am sure that people who do could readily overcome the technical challenges associated with the harvesting of a steam resource.
In my efforts to be heard, I have written to the Prime Minister of Australia, the Governor of California and have even asked the Secret Service to forward an e-mail and/or its contents to former Vice President and environmental crusader Al Gore, but to date, I have only received polite nods.
Additionally, I have also submitted an idea to use a geosynchronous satellite with a mirror array to direct a tight beam of sunlight to a solar power plant set up in a desert location, which would allow twenty-four hour a day solar power generation, causing little detrimental impact on the desert location, while ensuring minimal power interruption due to clouds.
Perhaps in this forum, somebody will listen and someone with the right connections will act. I know that both candidates for President are keenly attuned to the problem of global warming. and I am happy to discuss this further and have detailed plans that I have submitted to the people mentioned earlier in this blog.
While I receive no reply from John McCain, I get a steady stream of e-mail on behalf of President Barack Obama, but I never did receive anything directly addressing the issues sent to him by e-mail.
